# Contacts and groups

> Manage groups, contacts, labels, identity, profiles, and privacy settings.

These features organize people and chats around a connected number.

> **[Groups](/api-reference/messaging/groups/list-groups?playground=open)**
>
> Create groups, manage members, configure permissions, and rotate invite links.

> **[Contacts and identity](/api/user-identities)**
>
> Use the stable ID and retain phone numbers or usernames as aliases.

> **[Labels](/api-reference/messaging/labels/list-labels?playground=open)**
>
> Define labels and attach them to chats.

> **[Profile and privacy](/api-reference/messaging/privacy/get-privacy-settings?playground=open)**

> Control the connected account's public profile and privacy settings.

Presence and label observation are project-configurable. Keep observation disabled when an integration does not need cached asynchronous state.

Message-label events use `label_association_message` and carry a Polymorfa
`messageId`. A label event can arrive before the message. Its ID remains stable,
but message actions require the message's routing information to have been
observed. An association alone does not establish who sent the message.

## Groups on Hybrid Numbers

For teams enrolled in the Hybrid Link beta, group operations and group messages
use the Number's linked-device connection. Keep that connection connected and
funded. If it is unavailable, the request fails with
`hybrid_group_linked_devices_unavailable`; it does not switch to Official API.
An explicit `official_api` transport is refused for Hybrid group messages.

Official-only Numbers use the separate Meta Groups API beta, which requires
an eligible Official Business Account and enrollment in the Official Groups beta.
WhatsApp Business app numbers, including Coexistence Numbers, are ineligible
for Meta Groups API. The Linked Devices group methods above do not create
Official API groups.
