# Numbers

> Connect a WhatsApp number with QuickLink, then manage its session.

## Connect a number

Create a [QuickLink](/integrations/quicklink) and open or share its URL. The
hosted page offers QR scanning and phone pairing, then asks the recipient to
confirm the connection. QuickLink creates the session for you.

1. [Create a QuickLink](/api-reference/messaging/quicklink/create-quick-link).
2. Open the returned `url` on the recipient's device.
3. Wait for the link's status to become `connected`.
4. Save the returned session identifier for messaging requests.

For a complete first request, follow the [Quickstart](/quickstart).
For a reusable link assigned to a customer, use
[Customer pairing links](/guides/customers/pairing-links).

## Manage a connected session

[Read the session](/api-reference/platform/sessions/get-session) to check its connection.
Use [Start](/api-reference/platform/sessions/start-session),
[Stop](/api-reference/platform/sessions/stop-session), or
[Restart](/api-reference/platform/sessions/restart-session) to control it.

## Build your own pairing interface

Direct-pairing access

Direct QR and pairing-code retrieval require direct-pairing access for the
team that owns the Number. Without access, these methods return `403`.

* [Get QR code](/api-reference/messaging/pairing/get-qr-code)
* [Request a pairing code](/api-reference/messaging/pairing/request-pair-code)

Standard connections use QuickLink, including when you connect a phone from Console.
